Identify records and encoding
A comma inside a quoted cell is not a new column. Use CSV-aware conversion rather than replacing delimiters blindly. CSV to JSON retains strings; keep identifiers such as 0012 as text. For legacy files, choose the source encoding explicitly before converting.
Understand structured mappings
JSON arrays, JSON Lines, YAML and XML have different conventions. The typed XML format preserves explicit JSON types, while generic XML needs rules for attributes and repeated children. Compare a small representative sample before transforming a larger data set.
Inspect before unpacking
ZIP listing shows entry paths without extracting contents. Use the exact path to download one entry; do not open untrusted files just because extraction succeeded. Renaming copies does not change their file format, and neither renaming nor ZIP tools provide malware scanning.
