A closer look

Remove an Excel file-opening password that you already know. Select one encrypted XLSX or XLSM, confirm your permission and enter the exact current password. The browser verifies it and decrypts the original OOXML package without converting cells, formulas, formatting or macro data. Your original file is not changed, and neither the file nor password is uploaded. This does not remove worksheet or workbook editing protection and cannot recover a forgotten password.

A practical example

For your own password-protected monthly budget, choose the workbook, enter its current opening password and download the -no-password copy. Open the copy in Excel to check it before sharing. Anyone holding this copy can read it without a password, so store it securely; keep the encrypted original separately.

How to use this tool

  1. Select one encrypted XLSX or XLSM you own or may decrypt. Enter the known opening password exactly, including uppercase letters and spaces, and confirm permission.
  2. Use the example above to choose the options for your own task, then run the tool.
  3. Review the result before copying or downloading it. Keep the original; this page does not autosave your work.

Before you start

One XLSX/XLSM, up to 20 MB input and decrypted ZIP. Office Agile AES-CBC (SHA-1/256/384/512) and Standard AES/SHA-1, AES-128/192/256 only. Known password required: 1–255 UTF-16 code units, up to 500,000 derivation rounds and 45 seconds. ZIP limits: 2,000 entries, 40 MB expanded total, 16 MB per entry, 1 MB each for workbook/type XML; no ZIP64. Agile HMAC and ZIP CRC are checked; Standard has no cryptographic payload authentication. No password guessing, XLS/XLSB, IRM or certificate-only encryption. Editing protection is unchanged. Macros are preserved, never executed; external links are not visited. This is not malware scanning or digital-signature verification. The downloaded copy has no opening password: store it securely.
